Chip Griffin N1MIE Secretary
Chip was born in Kittery, ME. His father was a career Navy officer so he travelled around the US and the world as a child.
After high school Chip enlisted in the Navy and served for a little over 8 years on submarines. He moved to Norwich in
1990 for his last duty assignment in Groton. Chips first exposure to ham radio was via his maternal grandfather (now SK)
and one of his uncles, both of whom were licensed as far back as he can remember. While living in Japan in the 1970s he
once spent an afternoon with a Japanese ham trying to make a scheduled contact with his grandfather. Unfortunately they
were not successful. Chip was initially licensed in 1992 as N1MIE and has kept that call continuously ever since. He
presently holds an Extra class license. His interests in the hobby include: DX, foxhunting, digital modes on HF as well
